MacMillan, Sobanski & Todd, LLC is searching for a candidate qualified to provide intellectual property services specializing in both organic and inorganic chemistry arts.  Minimum of 5 years of patent prosecution experience with technical expertise in organic coatings is required.  Experience with materials science, glass chemistry and/or fuel cells is a plus.  The work will involve the full gamut of intellectual property practice, including the following areas:

  • Patent application preparation and prosecution
  • Counseling of clients and portfolio management
  • Opinions (freedom to operate, validity and infringement)
  • Agreements and licensing
  • Due diligence for mergers and acquisitions
  • Pre-litigation activities

We provide our clients with guidance in formulating and implementing IP strategy. Our growing practice involves working closely with our clients as a team to capture and protect key emerging technology. We spend the time with clients necessary to understand potential opportunities and provide solutions for their intellectual property issues. Position Requirements:
  • Undergraduate degree in chemistry, or chemical engineering Advanced degree is a plus
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including acute attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to interface effectively with personnel at many different levels
  • Registration to practice before the USPTO and admittance to practice law in at least one state
  • At least 5 years experience in prosecuting patent applications in the chemical arts. 
  • Technical expertise in organic coatings with industry or research experience. 
  • Interest in being part of an entrepreneurial environment
