Kristi Johnson, Greg Robinette, Catherine Martineau and Ted Gillespie participated in the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM) Central Region Meeting July 25-27, 2011, in Louisville, Kentucky.

Kristi gave a presentation entitled QR Codes & University Technology Marketing. QR codes are two-dimensional bar codes that can be scanned by smartphones to access uploaded content. For example, a university can upload compelling video or audio content about its technology and link it to a QR code for easy access by customers.

Greg gave a presentation entitled Smart Phone Apps -- Policy Issues and Potential Pitfalls for University Technology Managers. Smart Phone Apps can be protected by utility and design patents, copyright, and trademark. Two key questions for Technology Managers are whether university IP policies address Smart Phone Apps, and whether they need to. The presentation addresses issues surrounding development of Smart Phone Apps in a university setting, and provides example scenarios for Technology Managers to consider.
